Telling the CyberScotland story through an animated explainer film.

Creating a new identity, brand and website for CyberScotland.

We completely designed and developed the brand from the ground up, with entirely new thinking, behind the new modern style.

The Scottish Government’s key strategic stakeholders have come together in a formal partnership to create CyberScotland, a collaborative leadership approach to focus efforts on improving cyber resilience across Scotland.

We were delighted to be commissioned by CyberScotland to design their new identity, brand and website, but this was no small task, so after all the design was in place, we partnered with primitivemedia to develop a robust, secure website ready for launch.

A very successful first year of website data.

Robert Watson-Watt

Part of the identity design brief was to keep a strong Scottish connection within the logo marque. So rather than going for the obvious choice, such as a saltire, or thistle, we looked to the scientists of the past, to brand CyberScotland for the future.

Watt began his career in radio physics with a job at the Met Office, where he began looking for accurate ways to track thunderstorms using the radio signals given off by lightning.

This led to the 1920s development of a system later known as huff-duff. Although well publicized at the time, the system's enormous military potential was not developed until the late 1930s. Huff-duff allowed operators to determine the location of an enemy radio in seconds and it became a major part of the network of systems that helped defeat the U-boat threat. It is estimated that huff-duff was used in about a quarter of all attacks on U-boats.

We used the RADAR system screen to create the C and S Avatar for CyberScotland, creating the scottish link, still relevant to this day.

Colour palette and typography.

We chose a modern timeless typeface, Forma DJR Text, and a minimal fresh colour palette to display any information in a clear, concise way.
